- Each year the smaller authority’s Annual Governance and Accountability Return (AGAR) needs to be reviewed by an external auditor appointed by Smaller Authorities’ Audit Appointments Ltd. The unaudited AGAR has been published with this notice. As it has yet to be reviewed by the appointed auditor, it is subject to change as a result of that review.
Any person interested has the right to inspect and make copies of the accounting records for the financial year to which the audit relates and all books, deeds, contracts, bills, vouchers, receipts and other documents relating to those records must be made available for inspection by any person interested. For the year ended 31 March 2022, these documents will be available on reasonable notice by application to:

- Local government electors and their representatives also have:
- The opportunity to question the appointed auditor about the accounting records; and
- The right to make an objection which concerns a matter in respect of which the appointed auditor could either make a public interest report or apply to the court for a declaration that an item of account is unlawful. Written notice of an objection must first be given to the auditor and a copy sent to the smaller authority.
The appointed auditor can be contacted at the address in paragraph 4 below for this purpose between the above dates only.

Parish Council Meeting
The next meeting of the Parish Council is Monday 13 June at 6:30 in the Community Centre.
Public questions are welcome 6:3o-6:45. The agenda is included on our web page.
Parish Council Meeting
The next parish Council is Monday 9 May in the Community Centre at 6:30pm with public questions from 6:30 to 6:45pm.
Prior to the meeting is the annual assembly of electors at 6:10 when the chairman of the Parish Council will give an update on its activities throughout the year.
Queens Platinum Jubilee
The Parish Council is delighted to announce that it is working with and supporting financially colleagues at the Holy Trinity Church in the organisation of a Queens Platinum Jubilee celebration event.
The event is to be in the format of an afternoon picnic in the Church grounds for all ages but aimed at families and children. It is free of charge to attend and all those in the community are invited to attend, not just regular church attendees. It will take place on Sunday 5 June commencing at 3pm.
The plan is for people to come along bring their own basic picnics but for these to be substantially enhanced by a buffet table and drinks for the children. Music will broadcast into the churchyard from the church sound system porch speaker.
There will be games and activities in the churchyard dotted around (e.g. hoopla, sports games, splat the rat, boules, and others). Hopefully there will be a celebration booklet for every family to keep.
During the course of the afternoon there will probably be an optional brief service and God Save the Queen in church around 5pm using nationally provided prayers which will be streamed on the Church’s Facebook page.

Durham County Council- Apprentice Opportunities
Apprenticeship opportunities on offer with Durham County Council
Almost 100 new apprenticeships are on offer with the North East’s largest council.
Durham County Council is recruiting apprentices across a wide range of occupations from entry to degree level, offering people the chance to earn as they learn. The scheme is the authority’s largest apprenticeship recruitment campaign to date.
Apprenticeships are open to people of all ages. Applicants can be a school leaver, someone looking to return to work after a period of absence or those looking for a complete change of career.
Roles currently available span a range of occupations including: adult care, gardener, bricklayer, catering, refuse and recycling, leisure, joinery, premises assistant, human resources, ICT, financial management and customer services. Other positions available include HGV technician, electrician, heating engineer, data analyst, project management, chartered surveying, civil engineering, procurement and solicitor, among others.
The council was awarded a place in the government’s Top 100 Apprenticeships Employers in October 2020, with the list celebrating outstanding apprenticeship employers from both the public and private sectors.
Jess Ball started her Level 3 business administration apprenticeship with the council in April 2021 after transferring from a solicitor firm. She is now based in the health and safety team on a two-year apprenticeship.
The 16-year-old said: “I knew I didn’t want to go to college full-time so an apprenticeship seemed like the perfect option. I’ll finish my apprenticeship with the same qualification as if I had been at college full-time, but I’m being paid to complete it and gaining great experience along the way.
“It was really nerve-wracking to start a new job working from home but the team has been so helpful. They couldn’t have done more to help me settle in and support me in the new role and I am so pleased that this is the route I have taken.”
Cllr Richard Bell, the council’s deputy leader and Cabinet member for finance, said: “Apprenticeships are a fantastic way for people to get into work and earn while they learn, gain valuable experience and progress in their career.
“They also help us to attract and retain the very best talent and a workforce for the future. In turn, this allows us to deliver the highest quality services to communities across the county.
“I’d encourage those who think any of the various roles on offer would suit them to find out more and apply. Our current chief executive, John Hewitt, started his career as an apprentice, so who knows, perhaps this recruitment exercise will unearth a chief executive of the future.”

Citizens Advice Service
The next session is on Tuesday 22 March in the Wingate Community Centre from 9:30-11:30.
It’s a free service funded by the Parish Council and so take advantage of it!!
Making Wingate Welfare Park Wonderful!
This is the aim of the Parish Council and in partnership with the Community Interest Company who has taken a lease for the former parkers cottage in order to operate the new children’s nursery facility, we have been successful in obtaining a £20,000 grant from Believe Housing which we are going to use to upgrade the car park area next to the nursery and to refurbish the bowls pavilion so it can be used much more as a community building. This is great news and will help us deliver much needed improvements.
In addition we are going to be starting improvement works to the football changing rooms to bring them back into use after considerable vandalism to the roof particularly which meant the building became unsafe to use.
Financial constraints limit what we can do and when we can do them and sadly repairs after vandalism is something we could do without having to deal with.
