NOTICE OF VACANCY
IN THE OFFICE OF
COUNCILLOR
WINGATE PARISH
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN
that due to the death of John Cairns a vacancy has arisen in the Office of Councillor for the Parish Council.
As this vacancy has occurred within six months before the day on which the councillor would normally have retired, no election will be held but the Parish Council may co-opt a person to fill the vacancy.
The vacancy, if not filled by co-option, will remain vacant until the next ordinary elections in May 2021.
Dated 5 February 2021
Graeme Reid
Clerk to the Parish
Wingate Parish

The Parish Council is delighted to announce that the Children in Nature community interest company (CIC) has signed a lease to take occupation of the former Park Keeper’s cottage at the park.
Work has started to refurbish the cottage and to convert into a much needed additional nursery facility for children in the village. To help them get started we have included an initial 3 year rent free period and provided the CIC with a £10k grant.
We wish the CIC every success and we will continue to support it where we can!
The MP for the Wingate area, Paul Howell is undertaking a community survey designed with the aim of understanding the wider views of the residents of the Trimdons, Wingate, Thornley and Wheatley Hill, on topics such as Community issues, Local Authority (Council) performance, Support Services and Local Policing. For further information Paul can be contacted as follows:

New housing developments in Wingate such as the South of Wellfield Road mean the Parish Council has the potential to access Section 106 Agreement funding which can be used to help fund recreation projects in the village. The money is only available when housing developments are completed and so this could be perhaps or 4 or 5 years for the Wellfield Road development or, in fact, even longer.
To view The guidance from Durham County Council on Section 106 Agreements, click the below link.
However, the Parish Council is keen to start to think about what recreational projects people in the village might like to see and where they might like them to be. Ideas might include play equipment for example. Potentially there could be over £300,000 of funding which could be used. To help the Parish Council gain ideas about recreational projects and the potential use of Section 106 Agreement funding please answer the following questionnaire.
You may need a product like Adobe Reader (free download) to view and complete the PDF questionnaire. Alternatively you can print the questionnaire out.
The Parish Council is working with the Children in Nature Community Interest Company (CIC) formed in 2019 with the aims of leasing the former Park Keepers Cottage at the park so that it can be developed and refurbished for community use. The plan is that it will become a nursery school facility providing a resource that will improve the learning opportunities of young people, reduce anti-social behaviour, create diversionary activities within the community, reduce isolation and promote healthy living.
It is intended that the CIC will sign a lease during spring 2020 and development and refurbishment works will follow shortly afterwards.
A copy of the CIC Constitution and Safeguarding Policy can be viewed below.
A Parish Council notice board has recently been installed adjacent to the pit wheel at the northern entrance to the village. Look out for news items and matters of community interest.
